NBA betting tips

NBA betting tips - wagers options for the second half of the season NBA - United States NBA
Betting tips for the Second Half of the Season NBA
By Tony George
www.tonygeorgesports.com

The All Star break is officially over with the East and the West with their All Stars setting a scoring record on their way to a combined 318 points shattering the posted Total at 292. When the second half rolls around, I have a few things I look for each season entering the second half, and of course daily decisions are made for you in many cases by odds makers, but none the less a few tried and true methods that have worked well for me over the years. My NBA this season has been better than average hitting 70% ATS in January, and I usually have a better second half. As always handicapping is a process of elimination and it boils down to situational analysis.

Here are a few bullet points to consider when capping the NBA after the all-star break. And bear in mind their no magic solution to hitting 58% and above, these are not a "set in stone" set of rules, but I do use these points as guidelines. As always any handicapper can only take and work with what odds makers give you.

TOTALS - With 2 bad teams playing, especially with no shot at the playoffs, I like looking at OVERS. When two good teams play, especially late in the season, the UNDER is always my first look.

BAD DEFENSE BUT WINNING RECORD - I tend to fade teams who may be a winning club, and can score in excess of 100 ppg with high octane offense but play flat out bad defense. You will find many times, these teams lay bigger numbers in excess of 8 against bad team, but bad NBA teams (less than .500 win percentage) against bad defenses tend to score plenty of points in losing efforts many times, and taking big points in the NBA is always worthy of consideration.

GO OPPOSITE OUT OF THE GATE - I tend to look at teams who struggled before the break, especially if they had key injuries, to play better to open the second half, and conversely, teams that were hot, I look to fade early given the right line, and the chemistry and momentum many times drops off after a break.

BAD TEAMS STAY BAD - There are teams already out of the playoffs after the break, in the Bucks case for instance their chances went out the window after the first 6 weeks of the season. I would not suggest these type of bad, losing teams throw in the towel, but then again they get to a point where their effort is suspect and the motivation for playing a full 4 quarters, sometimes provides a huge point spread advantage. Very rarely will you find a bottom feeder in the NBA making a big run and creating a Cinderella type emergence, that is for some obscure college team in March Madness, not the NBA. These teams sometimes love to play the spoiler role against a good team who is a hated rival, but at days end, bad teams stay bad.

GREAT TEAMS GET FOCUSED AFTER MID POINT- That means elite teams past the Month of April really start to take it up a notch. Whether you can say teams like OK City, Miami, Indiana are on cruise control because they can turn it on and off like a light switch on any given night is no doubt true, coaches want consistent efforts and rhythm come late April and beyond as these teams ramp up for the playoffs. Many times you can expect them to play to stats (meaning the stats do not lie) or exceed them and you gain a few advantages on some soft lines and can lay the wood with these type of teams later in the second half of the season.

BEST COVER TEAMS - TOP 5 in the First Half of the Season

· Phoenix Suns 33-17-1 ATS

· Indiana Pacers 32–20 ATS

· OK City 32-23 ATS

· Toronto 31-20-1 ATS

· Dallas 31-23 ATS

WORST COVER TEAM
Milwaukee 20-32 ATS. And one note – While Miami is the odds on favorite to get to the finals again in many people’s minds, (although the Pacers may disagree) they have one of the worst ATS records in the NBA at 22-28 ATS. This is a prime example of a public darling who carry’s big numbers from oddsmakers

BetED SportsBook - NBA Bonus

Cop shows, hip-hop music and the attention of the NBA - all things focused squarely on New York City. With the addition of Deron Williams to New Jersey, the future is bright for the Russian-owned / Brooklyn-bound Nets. With the trade for Carmelo Anthony the future is now for the Knicks - and you can bet on it!

All this week, get a 15% reload bonus up to $300 free on your next account refill. Hurry, this offer expires Monday.

Check all the updated lines on this week's big games.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Sacramento Kings
Before dropping their last two games the Portland Trail Blazers were playing inspired ball - going 7-1 in the 8 games before that. With the lowly Kings playing host tonight can Portland right the ship before the final Playoff push?

Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Clippers
Call it the "Blake Effect" - despite having ten fewer victories Los Angeles finds itself as home favorites against the visiting Rockets, even with Houston being 12-2 in its last 14 games against the Clippers and having won its last 5 games on the road.

MLB Baseball is Back in Swing
Believe it or not, but it's already time to talk about pitching rotations, slugging percentage and who the Yankees will steal from another team to enrage the national sports media. Bet now on Exhibition games and who will win it all.

#22 Texas A&M vs. #2 Kansas
It's a big matchup in the Big 12 tonight as the #2 ranked Kansas Jayhawks play host to the Texas A&M Aggies at Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Will the Aggies score the upset before March Madness?

NHL: Detroit vs. Anaheim
With about 20 games left in the regular season, Detroit is 2nd in the West, while Anaheim is only three points from 8th and only four from 5th. Can the Ducks quack their way to victory?

Game 2: Atlanta Hawks vs. Chicago Bulls
Does anyone get less respect than the Atlanta Hawks? After shocking the Magic and then again shocking the Bulls in Game 1 of their second round series, the odds are not predicting another Hawks victory. Can Derrick Rose and the Bulls pull even in Game 2 tonight?

Game 2: Dallas Mavericks vs. LA Lakers
On paper it might look like a major upset, but the Lakers were one Kobe three-pointer away from sending that sucker into overtime. Given the chance again in Game 2 it's not that likely the Lakers will drop another game at home.

Game 3: OKC Thunder vs. Memphis Grizzlies
After a much-needed win in Game 2, Oklahoma City heads to Memphis for Game 3 on Saturday night. Memphis may have shocked the Thunder in Game 1, but with a resounding victory in Game 2 things are back to even. Memphis are slight home faves, but don't count out the Thunder quite yet.

Game 3: Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics
"If you're thinking you can beat them in an athletic contest, you're kidding yourselves" - so said Doc Rivers in Game 2 and boy was he right. Beaten up and out-performed, Boston will look to rally Saturday night in Game 3 at home. We have them listed as slight home faves.

MLB: Indians vs. Athletics
Despite leading the AL Central with a stellar 20-8 record, Cleveland are road dogs in tonight's game against the 15-15 Oakland Athletics.

MLB: Rangers vs. Mariners
Tied for first in the AL West, Texas will try to out-perform its 5-9 road record tonight against the woe-be-gotten Seattle Mariners.

Game 4: Canucks vs. Predators
It never comes easy for the Canucks - after dropping 1 of 2 games at home they managed to pull ahead with a much-needed victory in nashville. Will the Preds be able to pull even Thursday night?

Game 3: Flyers vs. Bruins
If you're a fan of throw-back hockey, this is the series for you. After stealing two games in Philly, Boston will try to put a stranglehold on the series tonight at home in Game 3.

Game 3: Red Wings vs. Sharks
After holding home court through the first two games, San Jose will head to Hockeytown, USA for games 3 and 4. Can Detroit pull even at home? Bet on it!

Game 4: Capitals vs. Lightning
Whoo boy, bet the Capitals didn't see this coming. Down 3-0 to the high-flying Lightning, Washington will need a big performance if they're going to force a Game 5 back in Washington.
