Mykonos GreeceOne of Europe's favorite places for the sun. Whether soaking it in, watching it set or even watching it rise, Mykonos is the place to be in the Mediterranean during the famous summer months.
Let's face it, Mykonos has a reputation for being a party island. With drink till you can't walk hot spots like Super Paradise and sunrise parties at Cavo Paradiso, this reputation is definitely well deserved. There is plenty of clubs and lounges to go around, some of our favorites like Caprice Bar and Semeli: The Bar, are located in Little Venice and offer awesome seaside views with cool cocktails.
However, there is also another side to this very Greek Island. It's a side that you can't see by just stepping off a cruise ship, or by sailing the Greek Islands by yacht. It's a side that you can only see by spending your day on a scooter exploring the nooks and crannies of this island. It's finding that, what is likely to be your favorite restaurant on the island, Kiki's, actually has no electricity, just a wood-burning oven, fresh salads and straight out of the ocean fish.
It's spending your days contemplating Elysium Hotel or your favorite seafront table in Little Venice, is your favorite place to watch the sun dip into the Aegean Sea.
It's wondering if the couple you saw at the posh Belvedere Hotel, noshing on the best Greek salad on the island really is Brad & Angelina or just a chic look-a-like.
It's exploring Mykonos Town for unique gifts and tiny cafes after the days tourists have retreated back their ferries and cruise ships.
Your days will be spent contemplating if you enjoy the chic crowd at Psarou beach over the more laid back group at Panormos beach. But knowing that there is a beach that fits your lifestyle, whatever that lifestyle is. And whether you'd rather lunch in town or on the beach gazing at the sea.
Mykonos is filled with so many possibilities. The only mistake you can make is being afraid to explore the island.
The sun, the beaches, the parties, the people and the food. Mykonos is simply a paradise in the Greek Islands.
These are the 5 things we wished someone would've told us. In many cases it could've saved time, sanity and toll money!
1. Cavo Paradiso Sunrise Party
Your days as a club kid may be far behind but don't let the all night partying of Mykonos's hottest club prevent you from watching the sunrise on the aegan. Here's our fool proof way of getting to see night turn to day, the first plane taking off and the first dip in the pool.
- You Must Find a Night with an Amazing DJ
All the hottest DJ's come to Cavo, you've just gotta find out who's hot and when the best night to go is. The price is higher (about 30 euros pp including one drink) but the music will be amazing, the crowd will be thick and you'll be assured an experience you'll never forget.
- Go to Bed the night-of early & Wake up at 3:30am
Have an early dinner, hit the sack around 11pm and make sure your hotel wakes you up at 3:30am. Get ready in your casually sexy club duds and hop into your pre-arranged taxi to Cavo Paradiso. Don't forget to arrange the pickup from Cavo around 8am, you'll never find a taxi if you don't prearrange it! FYI: You'll want your sunglasses when the sun finally rises!
- Have a Drink and Wait for the Sunrise
When you first walk in it'll feel like you are in an enclosed club but once you see the moon's reflection of the sea, you'll know the club is just sitting on a cliff. As the sky gets lighter, the crowd gets crazier and everyone waits for the first plane take off. Then it's into the pool, clothing and all!
- Go Home and Get Back to Bed
You watched the sunrise, it was amazing. Now it's time for breakfast or maybe it's back to bed and get some more shut eye.
2. SCOOTER RENTAL IS A MUST!
This island is small and everything is easy to find. There are so many hidden spots that if you make the mistake of just staying in town, you'll be very sorry. And, they're cheap at about 10-15 Euros per day.
3. DON'T PLAN ON TAKING TAXIS
With only about 30 taxi's on the island, they are a hot commodity. Plan dinners in many of the fabulous "in town" restaurants so you can stay to hit the nightlife right after. And do the whole night on foot.
4. SUNSET SPOTS
There are so many great places to watch the sunset, Elysium Hotel, Little Venice, Katherina's Restaurant and of course the Belvedere Hotel are at the top of our list.
5. EAT, PARTY & SLEEP LATE
This is not only a vacation, but it's Mykonos, sleep late, eat late and party late. Nothing happens early, no regrets.
Best Months to Visit Mykonos
Best time to go to Mykonos is May to September. June and July are great months to enjoy the Greek Islands, especially Mykonos. It's busy, yet not overwhelming like it is in August when seemingly every Italian in the world descends onto the island. May and September are calm, warm and beautiful if you're more looking to just get away than party Greek style.
