7/21/2006 gambling news:
BetonSports CEO Detained in US
Betonsports Chief Executive Officer, David Carruthers, was detained in the U.S. on Sunday and faces a case over taking sports bets in the U.S according to a company statement.

The group said it had been unable to contact Chief Executive David Carruthers but had seen a U.S. indictment 'alleging various criminal acts against multiple defendants.'

Mr Carruthers, 48, was travelling to Costa Rica when federal authorities arrested him at Dallas airport as he changed planes.

The indictment charges 11 individuals and three Florida-based companies and four businesses including Costa-Rica based BetonSports.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of BetonSports founder Gary Stephen Kaplan, 47.

The US has also filed a civil action, ordering the firm to stop taking any further bets from the US and to return money held in betting accounts of US-based customers.

Shares in online gambling companies slumped after news of the arrest broke.

Shares in Betonsports, which gets most of its business from running a book on sports including American football, and also offers Internet casino games and poker, slid as much as 35 pence to 112 pence in London. Sportingbet, the Web bookmaker that owns Paradise Poker, declined 43.5 pence, or 13 percent, to 280.75 pence. PartyGaming Plc, the largest Internet poker company, dropped 4.5 pence, or 4.1 percent, to 104.5 pence.

Carruthers worked for about 25 years at bookmaker Ladbrokes before joining Betonsports in June 2000. The company raised 54.6 million pounds in an initial public offering in July 2004 and has expanded with acquisitions as well as signups of new customers.

Mr Carruthers has been an outspoken opponent against a proposed US law banning banks and credit card companies from processing internet gambling payments.

Despite the bill winning the backing of the House of Representatives last week, he said the move would fail due to a backlog of US legislation.

US attorney Catherine Hanaway of the Eastern District of Missouri said the indictment was part of a crackdown designed to 'punish and seize the profits' of those illegally running gaming sites, she said, 'Illegal commercial gambling across state and international borders is a crime'.

The first outcome of this situation will likely be that other high profile sportsbooks owners and CEOs will adopt a much lower profile and eventually avoid travelling to the United States or transit on U.S. soil in the near future.

Tiger Woods Hot Favourite for 2006 British Open
It has been a turbulent and emotional year for Tiger Woods, with the loss of his father in May, and his subsequent but highly understandable dip in form. However, when the 135th British Open returns to Royal Liverpool for the first time since 1967 this weekend, the name Tiger Woods will be at the top of most people’s list of favourites to lift the Claret Jug.

PinnacleSports.com has kept faith in Tiger’s ability by listing him as an overwhelming 5/1 favourite to win his third British Open, even after missing the cut for the first time in his professional career at last month’s US Open. Another to have a disastrous time at Winged Foot was Phil Mickelson, but the reigning Masters champion is second favourite with the online sportsbook at 11/1.

'The nine-week layoff before the U.S. Open definitely took its toll on Tiger, so we fully expect him to rebound from his worst performance in a major as a professional,' said Simon Noble of PinnacleSports.com. 'Woods may be the overwhelming favourite, but he's never won The Open Championship outside of St. Andrews, which should leave the door open for the field.”

The two front runners are closely followed by Vijay Singh at 15/1, two-time winner Ernie Els at 16/1, with Padraig Harrington and Retief Goosen both at 20/1, Luke Donald (25/1), and Jim Furyk (30/1) all in the hunt at Royal Liverpool. Outside bets see 1995 Open champion John Daly at 200/1, 2001 winner David Duval at 250/1, and three-time champion Nick Faldo at 400/1 to add another Claret Jug to their resumes.

Canadian Shares Slump amid Online Casino Uncertainty
Shares in Canadian online gambling companies fell yesterday amid fears that the U.S. crackdown on Internet gaming may spread. Shares in software firm CryptoLogic Inc. tumbled $3.66, or 14.7 per cent, to $21.22 on the Toronto Stock Exchange, whilst online gambling firm Fun Technologies Inc., shed 20 cents or 3.7 per cent to $5.20.

The declines followed the arrest of BetOnSports CEO David Carruthers on Sunday, after FBI investigations revealed that he and 10 other people have been charged with conspiracy, racketeering and fraud in the U.S. According to an industry analyst, operators are currently uncertain as to whether the US Justice Department has taken sole issue with BetOnSports, sports betting in general, or with the online gambling industry as a whole.

“The market has reacted quite violently to the potential that maybe it's the latter,' said Desjardins Securities’ David Shone, adding that none of the Canadian software firms has a sports wagering component. 'I guess the fear is that if they go after the operators in a broad-based manner, and are successful in shutting things down, that it would certainly hurt the fortunes of the software providers that generate revenue off of basically a revenue-share agreement.'

Maharajah Club Launches in Extravagant Style
MaharajahClub.com celebrated the launch of their South East Asian online gaming brand with an Asian themed gala on Friday 14th July in London’s historic Hotel Russell.

Sachin Pawa, CEO of MaharajahClub (MClub) welcomed 100 honoured guests and members of the press at the event, where he announced the launch of MaharajahClub’s online casino and poker room. The launch marked the first gaming website to cater specifically for South East Asian communities around the world.

“This is the first time an online gaming company has targeted an audience based on ethnicity. It happens in land based casinos around the world and we at Maharajah Club wanted to be the first to take this very effective segmentation approach online,” explained Pawa.

The gala celebration transformed Hotel Russell’s elegant banquet room into a 1930s themed Indian palace, where guests were entertained by classical Indian musicians and dancers whilst enjoying a traditional Asian fare.

To endorse their launch, MaharajahClub enlisted the help of Bollywood actors, Rahul Dev and Gulshan Grover, who toasted to the success of the site: “May I say what an honour it is to be invited here tonight as a guest of the MaharajahClub,” said Grover. “On the set of my recent movie, the new Bond film Casino Royale, I had the opportunity to become quite an expert on casino games, so you'll certainly find me at the tables on the Maharajah site.”

After Gulshan’s speech, Rahul Dev announced that MaharajahClub will be hosting the Asian Poker Classic, the first major poker tournament in South East Asia, which will take place in Goa, India, this coming March.

Who’s Next in the Online Casino Firing Line?
In the wake of Sunday’s arrest by FBI agents of BetOnSports CEO David Carruthers, operators in the UK have been taking urgent legal advice amid fears that US prosecutors may widen their net to target so far unnamed companies. BetonSports shares were yesterday suspended at the company’s request.

The grand jury indictment claims that the defendants ‘and others known and unknown’ constituted a gambling enterprise that conducted unlawful computer and telephone-based betting, in relation to the Wire Act, plus racketeering, conspiracy, fraud and tax evasion charges. BetOnSports, the London-listed online gambling group, is accused of being at the hub of the multibillion-dollar illegal gambling operation, with other companies such as UK-based Sports on the Internet Ltd being labelled as ‘supporters’.

The 22-count indictment is the result of investigations into BetOnSports activities, founders and associates, which have spanned over a decade. The indictment reveals that the company’s US-based founder Gary Kaplan was previously arrested in 1993 for illegal gambling activity in and around New York, after which he fled to Antigua via Florida, where he continued his practice. These operations are said to have taken more than $3.3bn (£1.8bn) in bets from the US, and the justice department is seeking forfeiture of $4.5bn and has issued a warrant for his arrest. He holds a 15% stake in the company after cashing in a further 29% interest for £29m last summer.

Mr Carruthers is now in custody in Fort Worth, Texas, following his arrest by FBI officers as he changed planes at a US airport in transit between his home in Britain and Costa Rica. Mr Kaplan's brother, Neil Kaplan, is in custody in Fort Pierce, Florida, and three others have been arrested or are in custody, with warrants being issued for the remaining defendants.

Trading in BetOnSports shares was suspended on the Aim market yesterday morning at the request of the company, but the repercussions were felt across the gambling sector. Online gaming has profits of $12bn in Britain, half of which comes from the US. This case raises doubts over the entire industry and the sector's shares tumbled yesterday. Leading operator Sportingbet closed down more than 35% at 182p whilst other online gambling groups with strong US exposure but no sports betting were also hit, though not as severely. PartyGaming was down 17% at 85.25p, and 888.com fell 12% to 168.5p. Both William Hill and Ladbrokes, whose policies refuse wagers from the US, lost just over 1% on their shares yesterday.

Lawrence Walters, a Florida lawyer, said prosecutors appeared to be targeting BetOnSports as a test case: 'This case is going to be watched very carefully. It is going to set a precedent for an entire multibillion-dollar industry.' The justice department said it would be seeking extradition for all the defendants in the BetOnSports case. But lawyers have said it might face difficulties in Costa Rica and the UK where online betting is not an offence.

Bookmakers Getting Hot Under the Collar
After a sweaty day, bookies William Hill were saved a massive £100,000 payout when the temperature in the United Kingdom failed to reach the all important 100f mark.

William Hill have now pushed out the price of temperatures hitting 100f in 2006 from 2/5 to 6/4 and offer 3/1 that a new record temperature will be recorded in 2006.

William Hill's spokesman, Rupert Adams, said 'All day we have been watching the thermometer rise and as you can imagine it has been a very stressful day. It will be cold comfort for punters who have wagered record sums but at least their bets run for the rest of the year,' said

William Hill Latest Temperature Betting:

* 6/4 Temperatures to reach 100f or more in 2006.

* 3/1 that a new record temperature of 101.4 or higher will be set this summer.

At the opposite end of the scale, 'White Christmas' betting has begun, with William Hill offering 8/1 on snow falling on December 25 in London, Cardiff or Glasgow.

Casino City Acquires Gambling Portal Webmasters Association
The provider of casino and gaming information has already taken over the hosting and maintenance of the GPWA website, and earlier today rolled out an upgrade to the site with significant enhancements to its usability.

Casino City CEO, Michael Corfman, said, 'I look forward to working together with the GPWA membership, and with my colleagues at Casino City, to create an association that is vibrant and that has the relationships and resources necessary to make a difference.'

The GPWA was founded with the intention of creating an organization that would strengthen relationships between affiliate program managers and portal webmasters.

GPWA's 70+ public and private forums feature nearly 24,000 threads and over 170,000 posts with invaluable news, information, and advice for seasoned, rookie, and aspiring webmasters.

Corfman added, 'If we want people to visit so we can be successful, we have to get rid of the weeds. We will direct our energy, passion, and resources to build tools that will be of the greatest benefit to the GPWA community.'

BetonSports Claim No Deal with Dept. of Justice
Reports of a deal between embattled sportsbook operator BetonSports and the US Department of Justice have been quashed by the online gaming company. In a statement overnight, a source from BetonSports said, “Neither the company nor lawyers acting on its behalf have reached any such agreement nor are they in negotiations with any other party to these proceedings.”

The statement by BetonSports has shed little light on the state of affairs for the online gaming giant, as reports from The Guardian suggests that the US Department of Justice has opposed bail for BetonSports CEO David Carruthers due to his being a “flight risk”.

Online Casino News spoke about the BetonSports indictment with eminent UK gaming lawyer Hilary Stewart-Jones, who believes that much of the Department of Justice’s tactics are based on scaring the industry into compliance.

“I don’t think it’s going to be part of a flat-out campaign to prosecute everyone associated with online gambling. I don’t think they (US Department of Justice) have the resources or the appetite to do that… I would imagine it is much more about putting a marker in the sand and being seen to be taking action,” said Stewart-Jones.

She added, “The Department of Justice stance throughout all of this has been to try and control by fear as a deterrent, rather than pushing through clear legislation for example, or pushing through to test cases and prosecutions, so the fear factor has featured largely in deterring companies from going all out to take bets from the US.”

CelebPoker.com Breathe Some West Life into WSOP
The singer and former Westlife star Brian McFadden, has been busy adding various strings to his bow in recent months, and his latest addition is representing CelebPoker.com at the 2006 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas this month.

The illustrious $10k buy-in Main Event features the largest prize pool in gambling, and will herald McFadden’s semi-professional status in the poker world. McFadden has also been busy in other areas recently, particularly in his involvement in a celebrity football match in aid of UNICEF.

For CelebPoker.com it is a continuation of their long-standing affiliation with the entertainment, and in particular music industry, which has seen the online poker room responsible for back stage entertainment at the 2005 World Music Awards, and the American Music Awards in Las Vegas.

The 2006 World Series of Poker is being held at the Reno Casino in Las Vegas.

Peak Online Casino Group Receives Certification
The Peak Entertainment Group, one of the oldest online casino and online poker operators in the industry, has received full certification for its online casinos and poker rooms from independent gambling portal and news wire, Online Gambling Insider.

The online casino group was established in 1997 when it took a leap of faith into uncharted territory to release its first online casino, The Sands of the Caribbean, one of the first casinos to be licensed through CryptoLogic. The group now operates three online casinos and two poker rooms, with its flagship brand Sun Poker being endorsed by Kenna James.

Eight years on from its inception, the Peak Group has grown into one of the most recognized and respected online gambling operators, servicing in excess of 400,000 customers world-wide, and having processed more that $4 billion in transactions without a single security breach.

'Having dealt with this group for a number of years, their most impressive attribute is the consistency in their quality of service' said Ryan D, founder and editor of Online Gambling Insider. 'If one considers that they were pioneers in this industry, awarding our certificate should be a formality'.

Online Betting Operators Avoid FBI Sting
As the US crackdown on Internet gambling gathers momentum, it has been reported that an international conference of online gambling operators in Las Vegas has been cancelled at the eleventh hour, amid fears of further FBI activity in the industry.

Guests at the annual online gaming conference at a top Las Vegas hotel next week were due to include senior executives from SportsDirect, OffshoreBettor, Casino City, GamesandCasino, Smart Interactive and PokerAffiliateWorld plus a London-based managing director of the City bank Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, Chris Treneman. The basketball star Magic Johnson had also been booked as a keynote speaker.

The organiser, Bodog.com’s Calvin Ayre, released a brief statement yesterday saying the event had been postponed due to 'a high level of concern over the uncertainty surrounding the US government's recent actions against one of the companies in our industry'.

Mr Ayre continued by revealing many of his peers feared entering America. 'This will cause all executives of any substance trading in our space to change their travel plans until some certainty comes into play,' he said. 'I would be surprised if there's any executive who isn't sitting down with their lawyers trying to work out the implications.”

Meanwhile, there is growing frustration among online gambling operators listed on the London stock market about the apparent 'loose language' emanating from the US department of justice concerning the legality of poker and casino websites taking bets from American punters. Online gaming firms that do not take sports bets insist their operations are legitimate.

Freeroll Win for Star of ACES the Movie
It would seem that Lacey Toups, star of ACES the Movie, is not quite ready to come out of character just yet, as one regular at Aces.com will begrudgingly testify. To the surprise of everyone at the final table, Toups walked away with the Aces.com weekly Free Roll Tournament, claiming over 50,000 in chips.

The final table pitted Toups against one unlucky regular at Aces.com, who has consistently finished runner up in the weekly tournament without ever managing to win. Unfortunately luck deserted him once again as he lost out to Toups, and following the surprise win, Aces.com are offering a $100 bonus for players who can defeat the celebrity guests in the coming weeks.

“Lacey told me she wasn’t that great a player, so we honestly didn’t expect her to win,” asserted Aces.com Manager Rene Quesada. “We’re giving the prize to the second place player, so he’ll get to meet Lacey and the rest of the cast at the party. We’ll be giving away lots more prizes like that, and lots of free DVDs too.”

The next tournament will feature special guests Christina Morris, the cheating trio’s leader in the movie and director Daniel Zirilli, at Ace.com’s free Texas Hold’em Tournament, Wednesday (11:00 pm EDT).

Partygaming Looks Beyond the US as Revenues Double
Online gambling group Partygaming has unveiled an increase in sales, with revenues up 50% to $319.3m (£172.7m) in the three months to June, from $214.8m the previous year.

The announcement surfaces during a period of turmoil for the online gaming industry, as intensive pressure by US authorities on Internet gambling in the US, prompted by the arrest of BetOnSports CEO David Carruthers, continues to gather momentum.

A reported 73% of Partygaming's revenue still comes from the US, although the firm says almost half its 232,446 real-money poker signups have come from elsewhere, an indication of the company’s shifting market focus.

'In the midst of this turmoil, Partygaming is accelerating its strategy to become less reliant on US income - already this figure has reduced to 73% of total income, as opposed to 90% at the time of its initial float last year, ' said Richard Hunter, analyst with Hargreaves Lansdown Stockbrokers.

In its expansion plans, Partygaming looks to continue to drive its international expansion, with an ‘aggressive’ pursuit of non-US business in Europe and South America. Partygaming CEO Mitch Garber remarked that the international expansion remained a “clear objective” over the coming months.

Online Casino in a Spin Over Record Jackpot
For one lucky player at William Hill’s online casino, a 5p bet and a single spin at the Millionaires Club slot machine could be about to change their life as the progressive jackpot reaches a record breaking £3,470,000. As it stands, the jackpot already breaks all previous online records, and will continue to rise every time a participating game is played.

William Hill spokeswoman Jennie Prest said, 'The jackpot pools do grow quickly as several games will feed in to one jackpot and this is now a truly life-changing amount waiting to be won. It is a record figure for an online jackpot to top the £3million mark and the law of averages suggest it must be won soon - although of course it will continue to grow and grow until it is.'

The last month has already been successful for several Williamhillcasino.com players, with one player winning £155,707 on the Shoot-O-Rama machine and another winning £99,561 on video poker in the French Euro casino, but a win of over £3million would certainly eclipse any previous winning amounts.

Altogether there is over £4million in jackpot money available across William Hill's 130 games and winnings are paid out in a tax free lump sum. Once a player strikes it lucky and wins the jackpot, it is reset to a lower amount and begins to grow again.

Online Casino Winner Lands Trip to MLB All Stars Game
Online casino Aces.com has rewarded one of its longest serving customers with an all expenses paid trip to the MLB All Stars game in Pittsburgh. Brian B from Minnesota has been a regular at the Aces.com sportsbook since 2001, and last month his loyalty paid off when he won the Midsummer Classic trip after sitting down to place his baseball bets.

The MLB All Stars promotion at Aces.com required players to place a bet on a baseball game at any point in June, and for Brian B, that didn’t present too much of a problem. “I must have been one of Aces.com’s first customers, and I sit down once a week and place my bets,” said winner Brian B. “Normally I wouldn’t get excited by a road trip to Pittsburgh but this is different.”

The American League is looking for its ninth straight win at the MLB All Star Game and will be fielding an experienced team familiar with the Midsummer Classic.

Each week, Aces.com Sportsbook offers players one free no-loss baseball bet with losing bets being completely refunded. At the midway point in the 2006 MLB season, New York Mets (3-1), Chicago White Sox (4-1) are currently the favourites for the World Series.

Internet Could Become Virtual Vegas Says Online Casino
The relentless boom of the online gaming industry within Internet commerce will inevitably lead to suggestions of it becoming a parallel of its land based founder. New opinion, though, also suggests the possibility that online casinos are actually making Las Vegas a less appealing package for consumers than the comfort of their own home.

Roddy Madden, General Manager at USsportsbook.com states: “While a nice getaway is still something everyone looks forward to, gambling fun doesn’t have to wait for vacation time. Now people can play casino games for real money online, or bet on sports on a regular basis without having to wait until they have a large sum of money saved up for their trip.”

The options available to the Internet casino player are now vast with operators striving to develop more efficient and realistic game-play, along with better access to provide consumers with the authenticity of a real casino.

Madden continued: “Players have instant access to these games, guaranteed same-day payouts, along with fantastic bonuses, which actually provides them a better advantage than gambling in a Las Vegas Casino. Then when vacation time arrives, maybe you can go to some wonderful tropical island instead of the lit up Las Vegas gaming strip.”

Online Casino Turns To NANOGAMING Solution
Real time wagering is having a big effect on the online casino industry. At the forefront of this revolution is the NANOGAMING solution which is being selected by leading sportsbooks and casinos to provide real-time event wagering to their customers.

BetCRIS Sportsbook and 5Dimes Sportsbook are the latest to take on the NANOGAMING solution from LiveHive

Mickey Richardson, General Manager for BetCRIS Sportsbook, said, “NANOGAMING is going to have a profound impact on BetCRIS’s ability to interact in real-time with its customers and we are looking forward to offering a whole host of new live betting opportunities to our customers.'

The LiveHive NANOGAMING Solution is a system that enables online sportsbooks to offer smaller and frequent “nano-wagering” opportunities to their customers as the action is taking place during any live sporting event, reality TV show, or live broadcast such as award shows or elections.

Tony Williams, Chief Executive Officer, 5Dimes Sportsbook, said, “NANOGAMING makes sports betting fun and accessible for a whole new customer demographic – the casual bettor who participates in office sports pools for entertainment but isn’t ready to commit large amounts of money to the final outcome of a game. We expect this product to have a huge impact on the sports wagering industry.”

Online Casino Player Gets Chance at a Million
An Aces.com's regular has qualified for the online elimination round in the Vegas-style site's Million Dollar Free Roll.

The Million Dollar round begins July 22 and will likely continue for two or three days. Ultimately the top twelve players will be flown to a secret tropical resort for the face-to-face Final Table.

There is no direct entry into the $1,000,000 main event -- players must win

their seat in one of three free heats held daily until July 21.

The victor will walk away a million dollars richer and Aces.com regulars hope it’s their buddy 'Brill'.

Aces.com Manager, Rene Quesada, said, ''Brill' played in our last Million Dollar Free Roll. He finished about 400th out of about 5000. I can tell you though, he’s played a lot of Texas Hold’em since then – could be a real contender this time ‘round.”

The confident player is hoping his “Brill Strategy' can help him win the million. “Last year was just practice – this year I’m playing to win! I have a strategy that I've formulated over the years that seems to work for me. I call it my ‘Brill Strategy’.

'Of course, no matter how good a player you are, you need to get lucky. And sometimes the luckiest thing that can happen, is avoiding being unlucky.”

PinnacleSports.com Updates World Cup Odds
The Quarter Finals of the World Cup signals the business end of the competition, with eight of the best sides in world football prepared to battle it out for the biggest prize in sport. PinnacleSports.com, the leading online sportsbook, has announced updated odds on the eight remaining teams, but there are no surprises at the top.

Brazil have been favourites to lift the World Cup for the sixth time, even before a ball was kicked in this year’s tournament, and at PinnacleSports they remain firm favourites at 5/2. Argentina and hosts Germany are second favourites, although they play each other tomorrow afternoon, both currently at 9/2, with Italy, who arguably have the easiest passage to the Semi Finals, at 13/2. England are next at 7/1, who must overcome Portugal (14/1) if they are to have any chance of lifting the trophy this summer, followed by France at 11/1, and outsiders Ukraine at 55/1.

PinnacleSports.com offers a comprehensive menu of World Cup betting options available online with limits of up to $50,000. For each match Pinnacle Sports offers three-way betting, low-margin Asian handicaps priced to 1.5%, exact scores and over/under total goals scored. Australian Online Casino to Float Down Under
Rumours of stock market floatations are commonplace in the online casino industry, with new firms being touted to float each week, and the most recent focuses on Australian online casino and sports betting site Centre Bet.

According to the Australian media, the Sydney-based online casino firm is expected to list publicly in the United Kingdom before the end of 2006. As of yet the management of the online casino firm has refused to comment the rumours, yet they have reportedly indicated that an announcement will be made in the coming months.

Online casino analysts have suggested that a British listing is imminent due to the interest generated by sports betting at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Currently, wagers made by European online casino fans account for approximately half of Centre Bet's sports betting revenue.

Similar rumours have also focused on British online casino firm Gala Coral this week, after a statement made by its chief executive officer was interpreted as hinting at a possible float. According to online casino analysts, Gala Coral may be planning an IPO of 5.5 billion pounds sterling within the next 18 months.

PartyGaming plans £500m move into sports betting
It has been reported that online poker company PartyGaming, is on the brink of unveiling plans to expand into sports betting via a series of acquisitions to be funded with the proceeds of a bond issue, that could raise as much as £500m.

It is understood that the first purchase will be of a privately owned European operator, and will be relatively small in the context of the fund-raising. The size of the fund-raising is likely to surprise PartyGaming's investors but reflects the scale of a commitment by new chief executive, Mitchell Garber, and the group's controlling shareholders to 'derisk' by diversifying earnings.

The strategic sense of expansion into sports betting has also been demonstrated during the World Cup, as most online casino and poker operators admit a slight decrease in activity throughout June. However, sports betting would be seen as complementary to PartyGaming’s existing operations, a franchise that would seem to be recognising the need for brand diversification.

It is understood that the company has decided not to accept sports bets from the US in an effort to limit confrontations with the anti-online gambling lobby, a stance shared by established sports betting companies such as Ladbrokes. PartyGaming has also paid about £20m to gain wall-to-wall exposure for its brand during televised events.

12 Online Casinos Receive Seal of Approval
The online gaming industry’s leading standards body eCOGRA, has remained on course to attain its 2006 target to have 100 accredited online gaming sites this week, by awarding ‘Play it Safe’ seals to 12 new online casino and poker sites. This takes eCOGRA’s total of sites to have successfully passed its independently administered checks and monitoring to 85.

Of the 12 newly accredited sites, 7 are managed by the Tusk Investment Corporation in Australia and the remaining 5 operated by the Vegas Partner Lounge group, who all received the `Play It Safe` seal for fair gaming and best operational practices. Tusk Investment Corporation, which is shortly to be acquired by the Australian listed company Global Approach Limited, manages successful applicants ChallengeCasino.com, GoldenReefCasino.com, MusicHallCasino.com, NostalgiaCasino.com, UKCasinoClub.com, iBigCasino.com and PokerMetro.com.

The Vegas Partner Lounge group added to its already accredited list of online casinos and poker rooms through the addition of 28vegas.com, CasinoFranceNet.com, CrazyMultiplayerCasino.com, CrazyPoker.com and GoldenRivieraPoker.com

“Leading online casino and poker room brands recognize that players care about the `Play It Safe` seal, and that seal-bearing casinos attract more players and create additional revenue opportunities, “ said eCOGRA CEO Andrew Beveridge. “We applaud these operators for their efforts and encourage others to help us reach our 100 seals goal by committing to the eCOGRA principals of fair gaming, responsible conduct and player protection.”
